Frequently Asked Questions

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that children have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Early visits help ensure proper development and allow us to catch potential issues early.
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and limiting sugary foods and frequent snacking are key to preventing cavities. Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings also help remove plaque and tartar buildup. We also detect early signs of decay before they become serious.
If you have a knocked-out tooth, severe toothache, broken tooth, or swelling, call our office immediately. Quick action can save your tooth and prevent further damage. For pain relief, apply a cold compress and take over-the-counter pain medication until you see the dentist. Avoid delays, some dental issues can become severe and even life threatening.

Fluoride strengthens enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay. It can even help reverse early signs of cavities. Many toothpastes and drinking water sources contain fluoride, but in-office fluoride treatments provide an extra layer of protection, especially for children and those prone to cavities.

Yes! Digital X-rays emit up to 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays, making them extremely safe for adults and children. They also provide highly detailed images that help detect issues early, leading to better and more precise treatment. Eating a banana, sun tanning or travel in an airplane will give you more radiation than a dental X-ray.

While not essential, mouthwash can help reduce plaque, fight bacteria, and freshen breath. Look for an alcohol-free version with fluoride and Xylitol for added protection.

Yes! Regular visits prevent major dental problems and keep your smile healthy. When you have regular dental exams the team is tracking your oral health. This leads to less dental intervention and lower overall costs to you. Doing nothing typically means more treatment, more extensive treatment, more time in a dental chair and more cost to you out of pocket. Prevention is the best route.

Limit sugary, sticky, and acidic foods, as they can cause cavities and enamel erosion. The most common culprits to precipitate cavities: pop, energy drinks, fruit juice, sports drinks, sugary coffee or tea. Watch out for candies, gummy bears and worms and sticky toffee or popcorn that get stuck in your teeth. The more frequently these are consumed the higher the risks.

Use a sensitivity toothpaste and avoid extremely hot or cold foods. If sensitivity persists, see your dentist. There are ways we can help reduce or even eliminate sensitivity depending on the cause.

Use positive language, read books about the dentist, and start early to build a routine. Stress the benefits of regular habits and importance of oral health on all aspects of life.
We use gentle techniques and child-friendly explanations to make visits stress-free. We assess your child for cooperation and if necessary provide referrals to child dentists that can manage and get required care completed.
